well got the gator running. after two years of sitting we found that rats has chewed the wiring harness into. now that it is running we have air bubbles coming out of the radiator cap. dad thinks it is a blown head casket i have no idea. it is a 96 model with the yanmar diesel. any ideas?

Could be but when Yanmars need a HG they're usually decades and thousands of hours old. I'd check the hoses first. Then I'd see if the engine-oil is going down, and maybe take a coolant sample to an engine shop that has the Snap-on sniffer that detects hydrocarbons.

Put a new cap on it for starters. Also check the sealing surface where the cap screws on. If a cap is bad it is going to blow pressure out under it.

i forgot to mention that after about six minutes it starts to run hot. the light on the dash comes on anyway, it does not have a gauge.

A bad cap will make it run hot.

sorry i have not got back. we found out there is a certain way to fill the block and radiator. we did that and everything is working like it is supposed to. amazing what rats and sitting in a barn will do to a machine. but, is was a freebie. all it has cost us was a battery and some wire. does anyone know a place for rear tires, got one bad one.
